To Wax Eloquent…or at least to pour it

Some of my candles in operation...

I forgot that yesterday was Monday, and that my current blog posting was going up. Sorry. But, better late than never.

This week's column is all about pouring hot wax, and getting some charming little wax burns in the process. Grand time was had by all. You betcha.

Did you ever spill hot wax on some very sensitive part of your anatomy? Say, while you’re using an oven mitt that isn’t nearly as heatproof as you’d think a oven mitt would be and you are picking up a metal container (full of wax) and you are trying to schlep the damn thing across your deck, and you discover that a flower pot has mysteriously appeared in exactly the spot where you intended to put your left foot?

Please don’t answer that question.

Some things are just too painful to share.

Melting Away Again In Margaritaville …

 Some of my candles...

My current blog posting, all about melting candle wax, preparing candle wax, and spilling candle wax on very sensitive places. Great fun for everyone...

Okay, back to candle making!

Time before last, I talked a bit about wicks and made many very stupid jokes about being wick-ed and so on. This time, we’re going to get around to actually melting wax. Yes, it’s going to be a hot time in the double boiler tonight.

As you’ll recall, I got into candle making out of sheer boredom. It was lockdown and there wasn’t much to do, and there’s only so many times you can order delivery from The Pit Barbecue or Fortune Garden Chinese and pretend that you’re eating out. So, I turned to candles for, ah, a spark of life.

I had a bunch of used candle stubs left over from various times and places, and I had some other wax from one place or another, including some “curse-reversing candles” that I’d gotten, kinda as a joke, but which proved to not reverse many curses that I’ve seen, and, truth, given how dimly they burned, they weren’t really that great as candles, either. But maybe I’m being too harsh. And, honestly, once I get the incantation right, and sacrifice a few small furry animals by the light of a full moon, I’m sure they’ll do just fine.

Anyway…

Fire Safety While Working With Candles

Here's my most recent blog posting. It's on fire safety if you're working with wax. And, believe me, if you have any plans to make candles, you need to be careful.

Football, Sports, High School…My Fury

We don't need more of these...

This week's blog posting. It's all about how furious I am that schools are using windfall Covid funds from the government to pay for...more sports. Not education. Sports.

Argh.

QAnon Fatherhood…and lack thereof

The horror of it ...

This one ran today (Oct 28 2021) and deals with an incredibly tragic situation. It is the story of a young man, a Parkland school shooting survivor, whose own father became a QAnon cultist and now believes that the boy is part of a "False Flag" operation.

It is, as I say, fantastically tragic, and says much about QAnon in all its horror.

Sonnet 39

This ran on Oct 18, 2021, and was in homage to my beloved Martha. That was her birthday. And she will always be the Lady of the Sonnet to me....

What Day Is This?

Is this their day?

This appeared on Oct 11, 2021, and is my reaction to the Columbus Day. Or is it Indigenous Peoples' Day? Well...

Today is either Columbus Day, or Indigenous Peoples’ Day, or just old Monday, depending on which calendar you read, and which politics you happen to embrace.

Should I explain that? Probably not. Probably nobody in North America doesn’t get it. But, just on the off chance…

Giordano Bruno: Part 2

The trial of Giordano Bruno. This is a bronze relief done by the artist Ettore Ferrari (1845-1929). Source: Wikipedia

This the second part of my piece on Giordano Bruno and his meaning today. It ran on Oct 7, 2021

When they took Bruno to his execution, they fastened his tongue with a wooden vice so that he couldn’t speak.

Thus, even in the spare few moments before his death, as he traveled his last mile…

They feared not his actions…

But his words.

Homage to Giordano…and vaccines

My blog posting from Sep 30, 2021

Three seemingly unrelated facts:

First, the least important fact (well, important to me, but maybe not to others): my birthday is February 17.

Much more important, on February 17, 1600, the philosopher and scientist Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake for a variety of intellectual “crimes.”

And, finally, on July 25, 2021, at a mass rally in London attended by “thousands” of anti-vaccine militants, British conspiracy theorist Kate Shemirani told the crowd that soon doctors and nurses promoting the anti-Covid vaccine would be tried like Nazi-era war criminals, and “hung” (sic) as a consequence.

And I’m afraid.

Depth Charges!

My current personal blog posting is a Depth Charges...the lowest form of Explosive-Cargo!

This week I talk about getting violently hung-over, learning to hate cicadas, not quite getting Covid, and...and...and...

Never ever being even remotely as cool as my old Dad.

Sigh.

Waxing Poetic

Most recent blog posting. Still more about making candles. And wax. Plus more wax. And then, for a change, some wax...

This image has nothing to do with the column. But it made you look. Ha. Pervert.

Bell, Book, and Candles…

So this was my blog posting for yesterday, Monday, Sep 20, 2021. It was the second in my ongoing and very weird series about making candles. Badly.

Very enlightening.

HA. Get it? Enlightening. Light. Candles. Hee.

Oh, never mind.

Anyway, give it a read...

Sorry, gentlemen. She's not really in the text.

Better To Light A Single Candle…so long as it isn’t one of mine

So here's my blog posting for the day. It's all about how I came make candles...

Really lousy candles...

And that's just the beginning...

Sample text from same:

No. Really. Candles. You know. The wax things. That burn. “And oh what a lovely light…” Except mine sometimes don’t burn and often look like a sand clod with a side order of buffalo chip. But we won’t go into that. It’s far too horrible.

A Whole Lot of Shifting’s Going On…

Because right now we all need more happy kids with giraffes in our lives...

This is my column for the day. It's all about how I'm going to be writing more about happy stuff and less about grim stuff. Because, well, we're all tired of politics...aren't we?

This week's Xcargo: Biowar

 Hey, everyone,

So just to let you know, I post to my Xcargo column at least once a week, usually on Mondays, usually first thing in the morning. As you know, the new address is https://www.michaeljaytucker.com/blog

Yesteray's column was titled "biowar," and in it I asked if the Trump insurrection will be the first revolution in history to wage biological war against itself.

Check it out. It's both text and a video: https://www.michaeljaytucker.com/post/biowar

 cheers

 Covid's no joke. Get vaccinated!

Just a quick reminder...don't be stranger now that you know the way :-)

 Hello, Everyone!

So just about a year ago (on 5 July, 2020, to be precise) I announced that I was moving this blog, explosive-cargo, to my own webpage. You can see the page here, MichaelJayTucker.com and you can see the new version of explosive-cargo here, https://www.michaeljaytucker.com/blog

Well, I’m not moving the blog back here. Heck, I had enough problems just getting everything packed up and schlepped last time :-)

But, I did realize that maybe I could post some pointers to what I’m writing about here, just in case anyone hasn’t followed me over to my address. So, I’m going to start doing that!

Which is all another way of saying, Stay Tuned, Everyone. Lot’s more coming!

cheers

mjt
